Sapphy News!
With the loss of Pied Peddler, Thame is a bit barren for kids stuff now, so we are doing our best to fill the void a bit.. We have a fab range of presents for discerning small people, most of it is fairly traded, gorgeous and inexpensive. Come and have a look.
We have also noticed that there's not much for teens in the town either.. so in response, we now stock a developing range of body piercing jewellery, including stretchers, standard BCR's, labrets, scaffolds, surface piercing bars, spare balls (always handy) etc. all in a great range of colours! plus we have an excellent range of fake stretchers and plugs, for those who dont want to commit to the stretching thing!
We now have Kim working with us on a full time basis. This should (theoretically) mean that Sapph nwill become a lean mean retail machine! Well, ok, at least there will be some continuity!
We are a small company of two shops. One in Thame, Oxfordshire, and the other (Ruby Moon) in High Wycombe, Bucks. As members of BAFTS we are committed to stock Fair trade products whenever possible, and therefore source our products from suppliers who can show us that they are doing their best to work in an ethical manner. In order to do this we work with a core of suppliers who are registered with BAFTs (British Association for Fair Trade Shops), and also with a number of unregistered suppliers who we feel comfortable working with on an ethical level, who have shared their working practices with us. We are happy with the provenance of our stock, and will continue to seek out new ethically motivated suppliers.

Hey.. we are members of BAFTS!!
The British Association for Fair Trade Shops (BAFTS) is a network of independent fair trade shops across the UK.
We promote fair trade retailing in the UK, seek to raise the profile of fair trade on the High Street and provide a point of contact and communication for the exchange of ideas amongst our members.

Fair trade wooden carvings.
Our carvings come from Bali. We have been working with Mel, our supplier for the best part of six years now, and he has been working with the family of carvers in Bali for ten. He puts time, money and energy back into the community there, and fulfills all the criteria for working in a fair trade manner. The carvings are of a very high quality, and always beautifully finished.

We stock a variety of wiccan/pagan items, from Cauldrons to Wands.. Please call for details.
We have just had a delivery of new cauldrons. Just in time for Samhain. Perfect for holding charcoal discs to burn resin incense on, or to mix up your favourite potion. They are cast iron, heat proof, ( so you can put them over a flame) and really rather wonderful in a cauldrony sort of way!

Ruby Moon is our sister shop in High Wycombe. A more student orientated version of Sapphire. All your cosmic creature comforts! 01494 513005.
www.rubymoon.co.uk is now online, so feel free to have a look. The site is in progress..please bear with me as it is being built.. Ruby is a bit different to Sapphire, in that we stock a lot more of the goth stuff, that you would usually have to go to Camden High Street for. We have a fantastic range of body piercing jewellery, that is beginning to rival Woody's!

Tibetan Schools Fund Postcards
We are very pleased to also being able to be involved with the Tibetan Schools Fund. The Shuxiong Schools Fund was set up in 2001, when Carol Turner was asked to help a monk running a little school for 16 children in the Retreat of an old monastery on the side of the Mt Baima, which forms the watershed between the upper Yangtze and Mekong rivers in northern Yunnan. There was a desperate desire for Tibetan schooling in this region and within a few months, even with assistance from other monks, there were so many pupils the situation became unmanageable and the school split into two.
Baimaxueshan School With running costs provided by this Fund, half the pupils moved into an old village hall at Ringye Gongka, further down the mountain. By funding a water system from a mountain stream 12 km away to a barren site, this Fund facilitated a school building project by the World Wildlife Fund (China), which now manages the area as a Nature Reserve, to protect its extraordinary flora and fauna.
Tondashun School Meanwhile the original monk and over 40 pupils were helped by the people of Tondashun village further up the mountain, who built temporary school accommodation. With prompting and support from this Fund, application was made for a site for proper school buildings. The school was then moved further up the mountain where weather conditions proved very severe and the children survived a further three years, sleeping under canvas and studying in appalling conditions.
Thanks to the wonderful generosity of its supporters, the Fund has been able to provide new buildings for this school.
We are selling the postcards that help to fund these projects in the shop, and they will shortly be available via mail order from this website. The whole £2.50 per pack goes to the fund, and Sapphire Moon does not take any percentage for selling the cards. However, if they are to be sent via mail order, we will have to charge a post and packing fee of £1.50 per pack. Discount for larger quantities.
